I haven’t posted any new images lately. The reason for that is that I’ve been working on this new series of mine and I don’t want to let it out in the world before it’s finished.
The theme of the series is gender equality. I’ve created an utopia were male dominance does not exist. What would the dreams of little girls look like in such a world? The pictures shows the protagonist in several occupations that have been typically man dominated throughout history. The images are seen through the eyes of a little girl and have a childlike quality to them.
I also wanted the images to look like paintings instead of photographs due to the fact that some of the images portrays eras before the photographs was invented.
The full artist statement is not finished yet, so this description will have to do for now. I hope you get the grip of what I’m talking about.
The whole series is shot indoors in my studio which is I’m not used to. Up till now I’ve always planned my images with nature as a backdrop so working with a blank canvas was a challenge.
I tend to be most comfortable working in black and white, so I had to step out of my comfort zone with this series. The good thing is that I’ve learned so much about color and fallen in love with it, so I’m sure that I’ll continue on this path.
The model in this series is my 7 year old daughter Emily. Luckily she is very photogenic and easy to direct. She also helped me brainstorm ideas for new images, so we really created this series together.
I will post the full series as soon as I’ve completed it, so stay tuned!
